A Magical Wood Pixy Hat
The Leaf Hat is a practical yet whimsical design that will keep your (or your loved ones’) ears warm while looking cute and playful. You can customize the number of leaves on your hat, or even add ties to ensure it stays securely in place!
This pattern was born because I was looking for a hat pattern that would keep my little ones ears warm from the cold winds and I could not find what I was looking for. A lot of hats don’t seem to cover the ears enough. This one does!
About this Pattern
This pixy hat is knit in the round in st st with w&t short rows to shape the ear flaps and the back. The pattern is not overly complicated but the short row section might be challenging for beginners.
This is a written pattern, there are no charts provided.
Pattern Specifications
Sizes
The Leaf Hat comes in 5 sizes:
- Newborn (0-3 months, about 33-38cm)
- Baby (3-12 months, about 38-44cm)
- Small Kid (1-4 Years, about 46-52cm)
- Kid/Small Adult (from about 5 years, about 52-54cm)
- Large Adult (about 55-59cm)
For the two smaller sizes you will need one skein of yarn, the other versions need slightly more ( up to two skeins). But that also depends if you are going to knit a uni coloured hat or one with accent colour, with long i-cords and leaves or plain.
Variations
You can customize your Leaf Hat by adding leaves to the tip or the ear flaps. You can also add an i-cord to be able to tie the hat and secure it in place. Get creative
