A knitted bass wood leaf
Tilia, bass wood or linden trees have a distinct heart shaped leaf and with this pattern you will be able to knit your own. This pattern includes 3 different sizes of the Tilia Leaf and is easily combined with other patterns such as “Take a leaf”.
You can add these leaves to any other project – be creative!
About this Pattern
These linden leaves are knit in the round in st st, and only take very little time to knit up. They are not overly complicated and fun to knit. They are simple, yet whimsical and make a great addition to your nature inspired project or as decoration.
This is a written pattern, there are no charts provided.
Pattern Specifications
Yarn, Needles & Finished Dimensions
The Tilia leaves in the photos were knitted with sock yarn. The finished leaves turned out about 4cm/6cm/7cm long. But really you can knit these with any weight of yarn with corresponding needles, the sizes will just be different.
You will need only a few grams of yarn, so it’s perfect for those leftovers from bigger projects.

You should know how to…
- knit in the round using dpns
- work increases such as m1l
- work decreases such as ssk and k2tog
- how to knit stockinette stitch
- how to yarn over
- how to knit I-cord (this is explained in the pattern)
This does not mean, that you have to know all of these techniques. If you know most of them, see it as an opportunity to learn something new =)
You will need
- a few grams of yarn
- 3 DPNs size 2.5 mm (you can also use a cirular needle to knit this).
- a stitch holder or scrap yarn to hold some sts.
- scissors to cut your yarn with.
- a needle to weave in the ends.
